STRIPPED
‘Stripped’ presents a window into a conversation between two sisters who reflect upon the experience of their hospitalisation in adolescence and the impact this left upon their sense of self. When experiences disrupt the normative ways in which a gendered identity is shaped and defined in society, individuals may find themselves navigating difficult terrain in the quest for self-acceptance and understanding.
‘Stripped’ highlights how assuming a patient identity interferes with relations of sexual intimacy and the sexual identity of a young woman entering adulthood, in ways which are rarely considered by wider society.
This is a 15-minute film which pairs audio narration with metaphoric visuals and archival material. Trigger warning: mentions of eating disorders, experiences of the medical gaze, and sexual relations.

The interviews, narrative construction, filming and editing for this documentary were all undertaken by myself. The film was submitted as my university thesis, winning the Steve Nungent Award for highest achieving dissertation in my cohort.
